S&D 50 Tribute to
ex-S&D fireman Ian Bunnett
(1946 - 2016)

Sadly on the 8th September, Ian Bunnett lost his long courageous battle against cancer. This legend of the S&D was one-of-a-kind and a true gent. I have shared many fascinating Facebook conversations with Ian and loved hearing him share his precious memories of the Somerset & Dorset.

Despite his ongoing battle with skin cancer - he still managed to retain his great sense of humour, most noticeable was his youthful spirit and zest for life. He was a great family man and a wonderful friend, highly respected and much loved by all who knows him. I was tremendously humbled when he "thanked me for being his friend", the privilege was truly mine. My one regret is that our paths never crossed, we had planned to meet at Midsomer Norton back in March when they held their 50th anniversary event.

The spirit of people such as Ian Bunnett is what made the Somerset & Dorset Railway so special. My deepest sympathy and condolences go out to his family and friends at this very sad time.

His epitaph like the S&D before him - Gone, But Not Forgotten!

His final wish was for his ashes to be scattered and laid to rest on his beloved S&D.
