Welcome to the S&D 50 Companion website

En route from Bath to Bournemouth - the Somerset & Dorset Railway traversed through many rural communities and provided a much needed lifeline in the everyday lives of those it served.  Unique and distinct in character, and renowned for the friendly and accommodating nature of its crew. The line took in some of the finest views of the English countryside, that were to be captured and immortalised on film by lifelong enthusiasts such as Ivo Peters. Thanks to their passion and dedication, it is possible once more to view the S&D in all its glory.

It comes as no surprise that so many people hold such great affection for the passing of the line 50 years after its closure. If you wish to share your railway memories with the wider S&D community, please send me an email to: sdjr50@gmail.com

This website is my tribute to everyone who worked on the line, and to all the volunteers today helping to keep the spirit of the Somerset & Dorset alive. So please join me on a voyage through time as we discover what made the line so special.
